I’m a journalist currently covering the Michigan state legislature and policy issues for MLive in Lansing, Michigan, which serves eight newspapers in Grand Rapids, Ann Arbor, Jackson, Flint, Kalamazoo, Muskegon, Saginaw and Bay City.

I graduated in 2014 from Michigan State University with a double major in journalism and history. As a professional journalist, I've thrived at telling heavily-researched stories that provide context and clarity in a fast-paced news environment.

At MLive I've covered the 2016 presidential election, Michigan's Congressional delegation, federal and state politics and the Larry Nassar sexual abuse scandal. Most recently, I’ve shifted to primarily coronavirus coverage, focusing on Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s executive response to the pandemic and how COVID-19 is changing systems of government.

Previously, I covered the Michigan Senate for MIRS News, a daily subscription newsletter focused on Michigan politics.

I’ve written about numerous policy issues, but some of my specialties include infrastructure, criminal justice and court systems, elections, voting rights and government transparency.

I frequently appear on radio and television programs across the state and am a regular contributor to “Off The Record,” a weekly television program on WKAR focused on the latest Michigan political issues.

When I'm not working, I am an avid traveler, exploring big cities and hiking through nature in equal measure. I also love live music, reading, Irish dancing and spending time with my dogs and leopard gecko.
